Moving Tips
- Always use the right boxes, and pack them carefully. Professional moving companies use only sturdy, reinforced cartons. The boxes you get at your supermarket or other neighborhood shops might be free, but they are not nearly as strong or padded, and can't protect your valuables as adequately in transit.
- Label your moving boxes, especially the ones containing sheets, towels, pillows or food, so you can find everything you really need for the first night in your new home.
- Teach your children your new address and let them practice writing it on packed boxes.
- Keep your pets away from packing boxes and (if possible) out of the house and away from all the activity of moving day.
- Work hand in hand with your moving company. Give the mover's foreman your cell phone number and email addresses so you can stay in easy contact. Also, read the moving inventory form very carefully, and ask the mover to explain anything you don't understand.
